Sustainability lies at the heart of global efforts to create a more balanced and equitable future. Central to these efforts are the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a set of 17 interconnected global objectives designed to address the world’s most pressing challenges by 2030. These goals encompass a wide range of critical issues, from eradicating poverty and hunger to promoting clean energy, sustainable cities, and responsible production and consumption. By fostering collaboration across governments, businesses, and communities, the SDGs serve as a universal blueprint for achieving long-term economic, social, and environmental sustainability.

In line with the SDGs, the IMPETUS Accelerator directly supports initiatives that contribute to sustainability, justice, and equity. By empowering citizen science projects, the accelerator creates opportunities for local communities to take an active role in sustainable development. Through citizen engagement and grassroots efforts, IMPETUS fosters solutions that are not only impactful on a local scale but also contribute to global sustainability efforts. Many of the projects under the IMPETUS framework align with SDGs such as Zero Hunger (Goal 2), Sustainable Cities and Communities (Goal 11), and Climate Action (Goal 13), promoting responsible practices and resilience in the face of environmental challenges.

The SOLIVEO project aligns with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), contributing to global sustainability efforts through its innovative approach to olive oil production in Bozdoğan, Türkiye. By combining traditional agricultural knowledge with modern scientific techniques, SOLIVEO addresses critical challenges in food security, environmental sustainability, and social equity. The project's contributions can be directly linked to the following SDGs:

SOLIVEO plays a pivotal role in enhancing food security by improving the sustainability of olive oil production. The project introduces environmentally friendly farming methods and advanced agricultural practices that boost crop yields and quality, while reducing resource use. By increasing the resilience and productivity of local farms, SOLIVEO helps to ensure a more reliable food supply, contributing to the broader objective of achieving food security and ending hunger.

Empowering women and young farmers are central to SOLIVEO's mission. The project provides targeted training and resources to increase their participation in decision-making processes and economic activities related to olive oil production. By fostering gender equity in agriculture, SOLIVEO directly supports Goal 5, promoting equal opportunities for women in rural communities, and helping to close the gender gap in economic leadership and agricultural development.

SOLIVEO is committed to promoting sustainable production practices. Through the integration of organic farming techniques, soil composition analysis, and pest monitoring, the project ensures that olive oil production in Bozdoğan is both efficient and environmentally sustainable. This aligns with Goal 12’s focus on responsible consumption and production, as SOLIVEO emphasizes resource efficiency, waste reduction, and environmentally conscious farming practices that protect natural ecosystems.

In response to the increasing challenges posed by climate change, SOLIVEO contributes to Goal 13 by developing climate-resilient agricultural practices. By adopting sustainable farming techniques that mitigate the impacts of rising temperatures and unpredictable weather patterns, the project ensures that olive oil production remains viable in the face of environmental stressors. The project’s efforts to reduce its carbon footprint and promote adaptive practices in agriculture directly support the global call for urgent climate action.
